You can still use Gmail (or whatever POP or IMAP email service you prefer) as your primary email account on Outlook and on your Android device. You do not need to use Hotmail for email and you don't need to use the Hotmail app. But following is a detailed explanation of some key points and answers to many of the questions that have been asked on this thread.
